DYBSA Coach Corner

Thank you for volunteering with DYBSA!

Coaches are expected to:
- Complete and pass a background check
- Attend evaluation
- Attend coach training
- Teach and lead their assigned team by holding weekly practices and scheduled game

Pre-game responsibilities

Coaches/Assistant Coaches: Before each game, please check the calendar to determine whether your team is listed as “Home” or “Away”. The team designated as “Home” on the schedule will be responsible for dragging and lining the field with chalk before the game. Coaches will be given access to the equipment room code to access materials and equipment to prep the field. **Field lining demonstration and instruction will be given in the Coaches’ Meeting at the beginning of the season.

At the games, teams are required to provide league issued game balls and maintain the score book. The visiting team is responsible for operating the score board. League commissioner will issue game balls and other equipment at the coach's meeting. Coaches will be required to submit a $50 refundable deposit for catcher's gear.

Players are responsible for providing their own bats, gloves, cleats, and batting helmets for game or practice use. DYBSA will provide league-appropriate balls and batting tees for game play.

Game Play

The game will begin with the Home team spread in the field as the “fielding team”, while each player on the Away team will have a chance to bat and run the bases. After all players on the Away team have batted, the Away team will defend in the field until each player on the Home team has batted. This is called one “inning”. The Away team should bat first in each inning.

At the end of the game, coaches will organize their players in a line to approach and congratulate the other team (high five, “good game”).

Coaches and parents are welcomed and encouraged to provide post-game snacks or team activities for the players, and are asked to clean their dugout, bleachers, and common areas and clear of resulting trash.
